University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee & BIM

The firm I work for; Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) sponsored a BIM Studio at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) for the School of Architectural and Urban Planning (SARUP.) The session will be repeated again next fall...

The studio's focus was on design using BIM. Revit was the BIM authoring tool of choice, so the semester was spent in combination of workshop (Revit training - by EUA) and Studio (Design - by UWM). There were also multiple presentations from firms around the country during the semester on topics related to BIM and IPD. It was a great succes! The students just completed their final projects and presented them to our firm for review. If you want to see more mid-semester work work, you can go to the following:

This is only a snapshot of their work, as as the semester went on, the quality of work greatly increased.

In closing - universities are jumping on the bandwagon - and quick! Students are now offered classes on Revit and the concept of BIM and IPD are integral to the sessions. More and more students are going to be graduating with this education under their belts!

Autodesk and Sustainability

Check out Autodesk's online demonstrational video called "Project Chicago". The video suggest what's to come in the future regarding LEED and Sustainability. Very cool!

Here is a brief overview of what's in the guide...

If this doesn't make you start thinking that Integrated Project Delivery isn't here for good, I'm not sure what will...

First Post

I've been using Revit now for around 5 years and help manage the BIM initiative at Eppstein Uhen Architects in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I've come to the realization that it's no longer good enough to just understand or be an expert in one application (Revit in my case). To be effective today, you really have to have your hands wrapped about the concept of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).

This blog will hopefully enlighten you on this concept!
